I asked to have a look at the next valuation. This was forwarded by the builder to the architect and he coulddn&amp;#39;t even have bothered to look through it because there was so many things that were wrong. I&amp;#39;m now left out of pocket with a big mess. For many reasons, I did not get accepted by any architectural school. So, I studied journalism during my university time. After graduation, I&amp;#39;ve been working in my profession for 10 years, and now I am at the middle management, earning decent money.... so, my question is... am I satisfied? /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What do you think are the chances of a small Architectural Practice obtaining a commission to create a Great piece of Architecture? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Do you think that with the recession coming to and end that it is possible for Architecture to creep back into the budget?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Finally, I meet on an everyday basis Architects who think that everything they do is Architecture. It would be fair to say that most of them have never nor will they achieve much acclaim for their designs. I don&amp;#39;t think that we should discourage this behavior as Design needs to be a focuse for Architects but surely some sense of realistic understanding of ones own design limitations should be recognised. I however have been doing the publishing of my full fee &amp;quot;calculation&amp;quot; system since over 15 years allready, not on a website, just old fashioned printed on paper. I allways sent them, to inquiring potential clients.   I could &amp;quot;survive&amp;quot; on my tine one-man practice, only because this &amp;quot;open-to-all&amp;quot; publishing allowed me to maintain high (=correct) fee scales. In fact, averaging higher then the far majority of my competing one-man architects practises.  (They sometimes only charge 1/5 of my typical fees, but consequently offer a fraction of services they pretend to offer... (Like, NO practical problems or informational sustainment in head of the owners themselves, and typically, no involvement at all with finishing jobs.)  Regarding time wasters: whatever the reason why oneone inquires and doesn&amp;#39;t return (you often just don&amp;#39;t know exactly why...) is about 2:3 , So, an average of 3 real inquiries lead to a project.  Someone sending an email to (25 ?? lol ) architects with a question: &amp;quot;We have a plot of so-and-so, want a house with 3 bedrooms, so, Whats you fee and whats does cost such a house?&amp;quot;.... I just DON&amp;#39;T answer at all. When I started out, I had had several potential clients invite me around to their home, we had a long discussion about what they want to achieve, only to find they cannot afford my fees or anything close to a realistic construction budget.
